Cross-leaved Heath is a sprawling low shrub found in a very wide range of mires and wet heaths, extending into drier heath in S.W. Britain. It is usually on wet, nutrient-poor organic soils, but can also grow in mesotrophic or eutrophic conditions (M. C. F. Proctor in Preston et al, 2002).
In Norfolk, Cross-leaved Heath is widely scattered across the county, occuring in the wetter parts of heathland; in a zone towards the edge of fens and bogs or occasionally in the remnants of former wet heath. It is absent from the Claylands in the south-east.
