Fine-leaved Sandwort is an annual that grows on light soils in dry places. Its natural habitat is dry, rocky, calcareous grassland on chalk and limestone. However, it is more frequent in artificial habitats such as abandoned arable fields, quarries, old walls, trackways, railway banks and sidings (P. S. Lusby in Preston et al, 2002).

In Norfolk it is most frequent in the Brecks and on the chalky soils in the north-west of the county. It is occasional elsewhere, almost always on old walls.
