Yellow Star-of-Bethlehem is a bulbous perennial herb of moist, base-rich, shady habitats including woods, hedgerows, limestone pavements, pastures, riverbanks and stream banks; sometimes washed down on alluvium in riverine woodland subject to seasonal flooding (I. Taylor in Preston et al, 2002)

In Norfolk, Nicholson (1914) describes Yellow Star-of-Bethlehem as a garden escape and lists one location at Castle Rising. Petch & Swann (1968) suggest it is native and add Wayland Wood, which they also listed in 1962, and where it continues to survive.
